As this week’s Traffic Tip Tuesday, we want to remind you that the 180-day warning period for South Carolina’s Hands-Free Driving Law ends February 28. Beginning on that date, deputies will begin issuing citations for violations.
What’s not allowed while driving:
• Holding or supporting a mobile device with any part of your body
• Reading, composing, or sending texts, emails, or app messages
• Watching videos, movies, games, or video calls
What is allowed:
Hands-free use, such as an earpiece or a wrist-worn device used for voice communication
Penalties:
1st offense: $100 fine
2nd and subsequent offenses within three years: $200 fine and 2 points on your driving record
This law is designed to reduce distracted driving and keep South Carolina roads safer for everyone. Put the phone down, go hands-free, and drive safely.
