Citizens Police Academy

Why We Offer This Program

We know that informed citizens make stronger communities. The Citizens Police Academy provides an opportunity for participants to learn firsthand about the responsibilities, challenges, and daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office. Our goal is to create meaningful dialogue, answer questions, and give participants a better understanding of how we work together to protect Jasper County.

This program is not about turning citizens into deputies. It is about building relationships and strengthening the partnership between law enforcement and the community.

About the 8-Week Program

The Citizens Police Academy is an 8-week program featuring weekly sessions led by members of our command staff, investigators, patrol deputies, and specialized units. Each session highlights a different division of the Sheriff’s Office and explains how that team contributes to our overall mission.

Topics may include:

  • Patrol Operations
  • Criminal Investigations
  • K-9 Unit
  • Traffic Enforcement
  • School Resource Officers
  • Detention Center Operations
  • Special Operations and Community Outreach

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions, view demonstrations, and ask questions in a welcoming and informative environment. Optional ride-a-longs may also be scheduled with instructors for those who are interested.
